Minnetonka Junior High squad places 2nd at MN State Trapshooting Championship. On July 6th the squad of Cody Ziemer, Brady Pfeifer, Eric Sikorski, Deatrick Mangan, and Kyle Bunkleman took 2nd place at the MTA sponsored youth day in Alexandria, MN. The squads total score was 432 and only 2 targets behind the 1st place team. State Scores Twenty two shooters earn letter from Minnetonka High School: Lettering 2009 Pictures 2009 has been updated. May 18th, 2009 - First week of competition. 31 shooters on our team shot their average or higher. 20 shooters had a least one round in the 20's and of those 12 had both rounds in the 20's. One shooter had a 25 straight. Now you are seeing your practice and study of the game paying off, scores are great, keep up the good work! Week 7 2009 Scores have been updated. May 11th, 2009 - Great weather for shooting. Next week we begin our competitions with the other conference schools. All shooting will be at Park on Monday night. You will be squaded based on your average of your last 6 rounds. If you can not make it, you must notify me. 2009 Scores have been updated. The 2009 MN High School Trap Tournament (including all middle schoolers) has been moved to Sunday, 6/14/2009. The MTA (Minnesota Trapshooting Association) will pay for your targets, ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association) membership, and trophies. MGC (Minneapolis Gun Club) will pay for your lunch. All you need to bring is 4 boxes of trap shells. Sign up at 9:00am, shooting starts at 10:00am. You will shoot 50 targets, break for lunch, shoot 50 more. Awards ceremony immediately after any shoot offs. Family's are encouraged to attend. Families can join shooters for lunch for a modest fee. Awards are available for shooters of all abilities and will be for top squads and top individuals. All shooters will receive a lapel pin. All team members are encouraged to attend. Click link for directions to MGC Korin's Korner Updated - I can not emphasize enough how important this lesson is. Steve was not at Park Monday night but he has nailed exactly what was happing to large number of shooters. If you read only one lesson this year, make it this one! Korin's Korner. May 4th, 2009 - Finally a great day for trap shooting and the scores showed it. Two shooters had 49's and 16 shooters had a least one round in the 20's. Everyone is progressing nicely, keep working hard and you will achieve your goals. One more week of practice, then our competitions with the other schools will begin. If you need to make up rounds, try to get them by the end of next week (see "make up rounds" rule). Two items to monitor: We are trying to have all shooters at Park on Monday night, eliminating Tuesday at Plymouth, but this is not final. The MN High School Trap Tournament (including all middle schoolers) may be moved to Sunday, 6/14. Evidently, there is state wide ACT testing on Saturday, 6/13. Korin's Korner Updated - This week's shooting lesson covers "finishing the shot" and a reminder about relaxation. These fundamentals will help all of us regardless of our ability. Korin's Korner . April 27th, 2009 - Cool day, but not to windy, scores are improving. Our conference rules dictate that the last six rounds are used for classification. Scores are now ranked by your last six rounds shot, see 2009 Scores. If you are having problems, please contact one of your coaches, we are here to help you. Coaches. Now is a good time to review safety rules. WE ARE A BARREL DOWN CONFERENCE! Keep the gun in the case before shooting. Keep the action open. Keep the barrel pointed down. Keep the barrel pointed down range. Never change stations with a live or fired cartridge in your gun. Re-case your gun after shooting. Our team has never had an accident, if we all follow the safety rules, we never will. Korin's Korner Updated - This weeks lesson covers pre-shot body set up. Mn High School Trap Championship set June 13th, 2009 - This first annual tournament is open only to trap teams that are affiliated with a high or middle school in Minnesota. The shoot will be at the conveniently located Minneapolis Gun Club MGC Targets and lunch will be provided by the MTA (Minnesota Trap Association) Shooters need only provide shells. Trophies for all levels of ability. Everyone on our team should plan on attending. April 20th, 2009 - Another character building day. Strong winds, cool temps, made good scores difficult. Even veteran shooters can use these tips. Take Steve's advice and invest your time in watching targets and don't get down on your self if you have a few misses. Korin's Korner April 13th, 2009 - Great day for shooting. Scores are improving, safety compliance very good, basic fundamentals starting to come back. Anyone having a specific problem should always contact one of our coaches, we are here to help all of you. Please phone, email, or see us at the range. Week 2 scores are posted. Going into the tournament season, only the last 6 weeks will count. If you get off to a bad start, you can make it up, keep practicing, stay positive, ask for help, you will succeed. New pictures posted, Pictures 2009. Week 2 Shooting Results Posted, 2009 Scores April 6th, 2009 - First week of shooting for 2009. Typical Minnesota early season conditions, very cool with a strong nw wind. Good results after a long, long off season lay off. New team members shot on a locked down trap and scores were not recorded (asterisk by their names). Results will improve with the weather and practice as usual. Anyone with pictures of our shooting can email them to me for posting on our web page, Pictures 2009. Week 1 Shooting Results Posted, 2009 Scores Steve Korin and Scott Ziemer complete trap coach training program. We now have two more ATA/NRA certified trap coaches on our team. Steve and Scott completed the training course held at Buffalo, MN in March, 2009. Our total of certified coaches is now 3, Kirk King completed the same training in 2007. Park gun club offers punch card. Those of you planning to shoot practice rounds or join Scott Ziemer Thursday night youth trap league, can purchase an 11 round punch card for $30.00. With this card you pre-pay for 11 rounds of trap for the price of 10. Shells not included. For more info on the card or the Thursday night trap league contact Scott (click on hyperlink). Practice and gun fit check up at Park Gun Club, April 5th, 1:00pm - If you would like to have your gun fit checked by one of our coaches or have the chance to shoot some targets on a trap field where the trap is locked to only throw straits, lefts, or rights this is your chance. The pattern board may be available for use. Targets are $3.00 per 25, shells ~$6.00 per box. Map quest links to the Park and Plymouth gun clubs on the MN trap range page Are you missing some of the registration forms (click Hyperlink)? 2009 Safety and Orientation meeting will be held Monday, March 23rd at 4:30CDT at the Minnetonka High School in the Team room. Attendance is mandatory for all shooters and coaches. NO SHOOTING ON THIS DATE, DO NOT BRING GUNS OR AMMO!!! Shot shells to be issued. This year we will issue all 20 boxes of shells to each team member on the first day of shooting. Parents must be present to take delivery and sign for the shells. It will be up to the student and parents to safely store the shells and bring two boxes to the gun club each week. Check for weekly updates. 2009 Western Suburban Conference Rules 2009 Schedule has been set. MN DNR Offers Youth Turkey Hunt. Registration ends February 23rd, click the hyperlink for more info. Youth Squad Forming For Park Trap League. Any shooter on the Minnetonka High School Trap & Skeet Team who would like to shoot on Thursday nights at the Park Gun Club should contact Scott Ziemer. This is not a part of our regular program and the youths must pay for their own targets, shells, and family membership at Park Gun Club. Park Gun Club Extends Youth Rate. All shooters 18 and under can shoot trap for the $3.00 youth rate Tuesday-Thursday before or after the league shooters. To qualify for this rate, you must pay the $35.00 annual family membership to Park Gun Club and provide your own shells. Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club Offers Youth Rate. Eighteen & under, trap & skeet $4.00, sporting clays $10.00. This is one of the countries premier sporting clays clubs, past host to World Championships. Click hyperlink for more info. MHS Trap & Skeet Coach and Treasurer Mark Westgard Out For 2009. Mark was promoted at the Deep Haven police department and his work schedule conflicts with our shoot nights. Mark is one of the original founders of our program and we all thank him for his help the past three years, hope you can make it back next year! MHS Trap & Skeet Coach Bill Miller Out For 2009. Due to his busy work schedule, Bill will not be able to help coach this season. All of us would like to thank Bill for his help during our first two seasons, wish him good luck this year, and hope he can come back in 2010. |
